Join the national Ramblers Wellbeing Walks network – newcomers to walking welcome!

Many people have recently found a new love of walking especially following the Covid-19 pandemic lockdowns. They’re discovering how great it is for your health and your physical and mental wellbeing. If you’d like to get into walking and live in the Cheshire East area, then Everybody Health and Leisure are here to help with their free Ramblers Wellbeing Walks.

This National Walking Month, Everybody Health and Leisure are sharing information about their walks, the exciting news of a session relaunching in Nantwich as well as hearing from two of their Health Walk Leaders.

Everybody Health & Leisure is working with passionate volunteers, who have been trained to provide weekly short walks in the town centres and rural areas of Cheshire East to help local residents get out in the fresh air, increase physical activity levels and socialise in a safe environment.  These free short walks are accessible to all, particularly people who are looking to increase their activity levels and an ideal start for anyone new to exercise.

They’re a great way to meet new people and walk in good company, and to give your health and wellbeing a boost. Or maybe you would like some support to experience the joys of walking? Everyone is welcome, so why not give it a try?

Walks organised by Everybody Health & Leisure, meeting points:

  • Crewe Lifestyle Centre– Every Tuesday, 10.30am – 11.00am
  • Barony Sports Complex, Nantwich- Every Wednesday, 1.00pm – 2.10pm
  • Jacksons Brickworks Local Nature Reserve, Poynton- Wednesdays (Fortnightly) 10.00am – 11.15am

Donna Williamson, Senior Manager Health Innovation at Everybody Health and Leisure shares

“What better time to take up a new activity during National Walking Month. Whether you are looking for a new hobby, want to get more active or meet new friends, walking is the perfect activity to try. We are delighted to announce we will be relaunching our weekend walk at Nantwich Leisure Centre which will take place on Sundays, 11.00am – 12.15pm starting Sunday 26th May.

Walking is a great way to improve your mood, help manage joint pain, helps you to lose and maintain weight as well as boosting your physical and mental wellbeing.

We can’t wait to welcome you at our Ramblers Wellbeing Walks.”

The Ramblers Wellbeing Walks network draws on years of experience. The Ramblers is Britain’s largest walking community – it was founded in 1935 and is dedicated to inspiring everyone to enjoy open skies, fresh air and the feeling of freedom that comes from walking outdoors.

Michael and Kathleen Povall, Health Walk Leaders at Everybody Health and Leisure deliver walks from Crewe Lifestyle Centre, the Barony Sport Complex in Nantwich and will be relaunching the Sunday morning session from Nantwich Leisure Centre on 26th May. They share:

“We became health walk leaders as a result of being programme participants and we wanted to volunteer, giving back the help and support that we received.

We love meeting people and being out in the fresh air and it keeps us fit.

Don’t be nervous about turning up for the walks we are a friendly bunch. It doesn’t matter if you can’t walk far or fast there is always someone to walk with and talk with you along the way.”

You are welcome to just turn up on the day, there’s no need to register. • The Ramblers is a charity dedicated to opening the way so everyone can enjoy walking in green spaces, and to preserving and improving hundreds of thousands of miles of well-loved paths, tracks and trails across England, Scotland, and Wales. Since 1935, we’ve campaigned to keep our countryside open to all and fought for the things that matter most to walkers. ramblers.org.uk
  • Ramblers Wellbeing Walks is England’s largest network of health walk schemes and helps all kinds of people lead a more active lifestyle. Our walks are short and over easy terrain — they’re open to everyone but are developed to be accessible to people who have done little or no exercise before, or who would like support to stay active. 1,500 walks take place every week with 65,000 people taking part. Some of our walkers go on to take part in walks organised by their local Ramblers group. ramblers.org.uk
  • Ramblers Wellbeing Walks evolved during 2021 from the Ramblers Walking for Health programme which began in 1996, and which was supported by Sport England from 2019 to 2021.
