Crewe Town Council is leading a new three year partnership with Everybody Health and Leisure to develop and deliver a series of health and wellbeing activities within Crewe parks as part of a “Pop Up in the Parks” project.

The aim of the project is to use the green spaces in our local parks to hold free fitness and wellbeing classes for residents that are accessible for everyone and that help to tackle social isolation and improve physical and mental wellbeing.

Everybody Health and Leisure is a leading local provider that improves people’s lives through physical activity and healthy recreation. They run 16 leisure facilities, including Crewe Lifestyle Centre, and various health and wellbeing schemes and initiatives.

Three one-hour classes will be held in various locations each week between mid-June to mid-September each year for the next three years.

The “Pop Up in the Park”’ classes will launch on Monday 12th June 2023 and will run on a four-week rotation schedule, parks and activities will vary. The classes are delivered by experienced coaches and all safeguarding checks are in place.

Mother and Baby Walk

A post-natal class, intended for mums who have given birth (must have had post-natal check up and be cleared for physical exercise).

A low impact walk with mums and children of all ages – buggies, prams and slings welcome! This guided walk with an experienced instructor will help mums connect, get out of the house and move with a like-minded community in Queen’s Park.

Open to all ages and abilities, anyone is welcome but the walk will focus on post-natal recovery and guiding new mums on their new journey with baby.

Yoga

Open to all ages and abilities (must have been signed off by a medical professional for exercise).

This low intensity stretch class is the perfect introduction to yoga for all those who would like to get out in the air and move a little with a like-minded community. Mats are provided and the class will be entirely seated or standing (not sitting to standing or vice versa).

Family Bootcamp

Open to all ages and abilities (must have been signed off by a medical professional for exercise).

Get the whole family involved with a fun 45 minutes of games and movement with experienced instructors. The perfect way to let off some steam at the weekend and feel instantly better.

For all activities – wear comfortable clothes and shoes but no need to bring anything.

How can people take part?

The drop-in sessions are FREE for Crewe residents. No charge, just turn up.

Where will the activities take place?

The activities will take place in local parks throughout Crewe, for more information about these classes in the community, including a class timetable, please visit: www.everybody.org.uk/pop-up-in-the-parks/

Cllr Dennis Straine-Francis, newly-appointed Mayor of Crewe, commented:

“This is a fantastic initiative for all of the people of Crewe, which will have a direct impact on physical wellbeing and help to address social isolation in our local community in a fun and active way. It is great to see Crewe Town Council leading the way in finding new projects to effectively engage with the local community.”

Kerry Shea, Director of Health & Communities and Deputy CEO at Everybody Health and Leisure shares:

“As a registered Health and Leisure Charity, improving the health and wellbeing in our local communities is our main aim, so we are delighted to be working in partnership with Crewe Town Council to deliver these accessible classes in local parks for Crewe residents. We will be providing a range of classes, including Mother and Baby Walks, Yoga and Family Bootcamp, the perfect way to get out in the open air and have fun whilst exercising with a like-minded community.”
